Crafty and Sight Words

This afternoon, I put 12 of Crafty's sight words on her easel chalkboard and gave her directions for her to show me that she knew the word. "Put an "x" on the word "have"." "Put a line through the word "am"." She got all the words right, including a few I wasn't sure if she knew (like the word jump). She loved it and wanted to play again. I told her perhaps we'd play something similar while I tried to make dinner tonight.

During the parent/teacher conference last semester, her teacher gave me a sheet with the sight words (or vocabulary words?) for 1st-4th grade. We went through those today. She knows most of the 1st grade ones, more than half of the 2nd grade ones, a handful of the 3rd grade ones, only one or two of the 4th grade ones. I highlighted the words she knew so we would know which ones she needs to work on.

It drives me absolutely bonkers that she's only in school for two hours and 45 minutes a day. I really wish I was a little more organized and motivated to create a pseudo curriculum to work with her in the afternoons after school, before her friends come home. I've searched around online and can't really find much of anything to go on without having to buy something. Knowing me though, I'd get it all planned and that would be it. I would never implement it, especially with The Duke coming.

I loathe that part of myself but I'm not sure how to go about changing it. It's not merely a case of "mind over matter". I've tried. Hence the reason why all the schedules and routines I've ever made have never gone through. Apparently I'm better at planning than implementing. Ugh.
